The computer systems and networks include LANs, WANs, and intranets. Assistant network administrators typically do the following:
- Assist in installing and supporting an organization's wide area network (WAN), local area network (LAN) and Internet systems.
- Assist in network modeling and network planning
- Monitor, maintain, and test Internet performance and ensure network availability for all users.
Systems Administrator - according to PayScale, system administrators ensure the organization's computer systems are well maintained and operating reliably. Systems administrators perform regular systems and security monitoring, handle backup procedures and help manage user accounts. System administrators typically do the following on a day-to-day basis:
- Build, configure, and troubleshoot software and hardware enhancements, application deployments and infrastructure up-grades.
- Diagnose and correct computer systems issues.

Principles of Digital Literacy - classified according to the three principles of use, understand and create.

- Create - the creation of content and communication within the different digital media tools through the use of rich media, blogs, forums, video and social media.
Computer Concepts - being able to explain the characteristics of a computer, the basic components of a computer, introduction to hardware and software, an explanation of the importance of the operating system, and the need for computer security.
The Internet and Web Page Design - the Internet is a global computer network offering information and the ability to communicate through an interconnected network using standardized communication protocols. Web page design involves web graphic design, interface design, authoring, standardized coding, proprietary software, user experience design and search engine optimization.
Microcomputer Hardware - an understanding of the system unit that contains the microcomputer processor (CPU), hard disk drive, CD or DVD Drive, memory (ROM and RAM), data inputs (keyword, mouse), data outputs (monitor, printer) and power supply.

- Virus - a piece of code that is capable of copying itself in an effort to corrupt a computer or system.
- Backdoor - a secret method of bypassing normal authentication or security controls.
- Spoofing - one person or program successfully masquerades as another by falsifying data. This can be a website spoof by duplicating IP address records and displaying a false website or email spoofing were the sender designs an email to look like a reputable sender in order to get the recipient to click on a link and gain access to their computer network.
- Phishing - the attempt to acquire passwords and credit card details by faking a website or email sender.
